DESPERATE FAITH

Sunday 23 November – Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe

O’ Lord, You are eternal hope and the One who freely chose to take on our sins for the sake of salvation.

Lord, You remember all, especially the outcasts who speak with a dying breath and a desperate faith.

Praise to the God of Liberation!

O’ Lord, could it be possible for me to model the desperate faith of Dismas who humbly repented?

Lord, You remain history’s quintessential standard of heroism that goes far beyond any man’s attempt to replicate.

Glory to the Numen of Mankind!

O’ Lord, it is with a broken heart that I gaze upon Your crucified body and I stare in disbelief with those who refused to flee.

Lord, you are the locus of power even in Your most desperate time , remaining faithful to Hashem, the Father Almighty.

Praise to the Innocent Sacrifice!

O’ Lord, that irrevocable and scared choice to die for us and afford us a spectacular life can never be altered.

Lord, Your mercy endures from the hill of Golgotha and Your love for us and all creation remains unchallenged.

Glory to the Celestial Forbearance!

O’ Lord, steady our resolve with an unwavering faith when we are faced with difficulties beyond our abilities.

Lord, help us to fulfill our quests with similar dignity and resolve when our time comes and we commit our spirits to thee.

Praise to the Apex of Love!

 Boy scouts have a reputation for always being prepared; It's a good thing, after all, to be ready for whatever may come. To many people's way of thinking, if you know about something before hand, there is no excuse for not being ready for it. Jesus's admonition regarding future tribulations seems to go against our better judgement:

"Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand, for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute."

But not preparing a defense beforehand when you are put on the spot because of your faith in Jesus is not the same thing as not being ready. We have Jesus's promise that He will give us what we need. We only need to accept the situations that we are placed in as if they are from God Himself, be centered in prayer, and be willing to give witness to God's glory.

Don't be prepared; be ready.....

El templo

 

¿ No saben ustedes que son el templo de Dios y que el espíritu de Dios habita en ustedes?

 

 

Este próximo domingo la liturgia celebra  la que se considera como la madre de todas las iglesias del mundo, la parroquia del Santo padre, el Papa, en arma. Celebramos la Basílica de San Juan de Letrán  que se construyó en el siglo IV y que ha sido Importante en la historia de la iglesia a través de los siglos.

 

El evangelio nos presenta  una escena dramática, Jesus echando a los mercaderes del Templo. Jesús demuestra el celo por la casa de su padre, por un lugar sagrado.  Luego habla del templo que es su cuerpo.

 

 

En la segunda lectura, Pablo afirma, “Ustedes son tiempos de Dios y el espíritu de Dios habita en ustedes. “

 

Nos encontramos entonces en estas lecturas con dos puntos de reflexión; el templo, el lugar sagrado donde nos encontramos con Dios y el templo de carne y huesos - cada uno de nosotros, la comunidad cristiana con Cristo a la cabeza. Cristo templo destruido pero reconstruido al tercer día y la promesa  que nuestro templo mortal también resucitará…

 

Recuerdo los lugares sagrados donde he encontrado a Dios durante mi vida. La parroquia de Nuestra Señora de la Merced en Ponce, donde hice mi primera comunión y asisti todas las semanas a misa durante más de 12 años. Mi querida parroquia de Santa Brígida aquí en Westbury, que ha sido mi parroquia la mayor parte de mi vida adulta.

 

También  recuerdo lugares sagrados tal es como debajo de un árbol en la misión en la República Dominicana donde celebramos la eucaristía y el sacramento del bautismo. En una casa muy pobre, con piso de tierra pero muy limpia en un país de misión, donde Cristo se hizo presente en la sagrada eucaristía.

 

 Nunca olvidaré mi primera visita al santuario de Nuestra Señora de Lourdes, Francia. Nunca me he sentido en un lugar tan sagrado y tan cerca del cielo como aquel día en Lourdes.

 

¿ Cuál es tu lugar sagrado favorito?¿ De qué manera te ayuda a encontrarte con Dios?

 

La reflexión sobre lugares sagrados me llevan al otro punto importante de las dictaduras de este próximo domingo; somos el templo de Dios, el espíritu de Dios habita en nosotros.

 

De esa realidad parte toda mi vida cristiana; ¿ quién soy yo? .¿ Quién es el otro, la otra? La razón por la cual actúo, me relaciono con cada  persona y con la comunidad es función de quién soy yo y de quiénes son ellos. Dice San Pablo a los romanos que si amo a mi prójimo, cumplo todos los mandamientos. Podríamos añadir que si vivo de acuerdo a esta norma ya voy viviendo también de acuerdo al Sermón de la montaña, la esencia del mensaje de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

 

Somos templos de Dios y el espíritu de Dios habita en nosotros.  Pensemos, juzguemos, actuemos, vivamos nuestra vida de acuerdo a esa realidad.
