The apostles were overcome with sleep; a perfectly normal and human thing to happen, but perhaps not a thing suited for all situations. While the apostles were overcome with sleep, Jesus, Moses and Elijah were having a conversation. Jesus was in His Glory. They were speaking of Jesus's Exodus.
I try to picture this scene in my mind and all I can get is that Jesus's Glory can hardly be imagined. Yet the apostles were right there and they were sleeping. Apparently, it took them a while to come to because scripture says "becoming fully awake, they saw His Glory....."
I wonder what I'm missing because I am not fully awake. Either physically or spiritually. How often does God reveal glorious things to me in my presence, and yet I'm "overcome with sleep" or I'm "becoming fully awake." How often do I say things without really knowing what I'm saying?
A thought to ponder as I journey through this Lenten season: "wake up!"
Peace,
+ Theophilus
